Building an Automation ALFIE

On this tutorial you will learn how to wire an Alfie automation in just a few steps. The automation ALFIE’s are designed to be super easy to setup and use. They work of 12v so are the same as your ute battery. They require simple connection of wires using either screw terminals or click connectors. No soldering is required, but your free to solder connections if you chose!

Step by Step

Step 1: Get a battery and a Alfie automation unitAny 12v battery source will run the ALFIE’s. We generally use a 12v 7ah battery. Commonly available at Bunnings, Collier and Miller or BCF.

Step 2: Connect a black wire to the negative terminal and red wire to the positive terminal. Now run these to a connector block as shown. (or leave the wire end bare and joiner later by twisting and soldering).

Step 3: Power the ALFIE. The ALFIE has a plug which has a black negative wire and a black and white positive wire. Join the black wire to the negative terminal and the black and white wire to the positive terminal. Plug the other end into the ALFIE where it indicates 12v on the left side bottom of the ALFIE and the blue wi-fi light will flash. Once confirmed with the flashing wi-fi blue light unplug the 12v connector.

Step 4: Power the actuator. Now we need to wire the power for the actuator. The ALFIE’s have four 12v relays. For one actuator we need to use two of these relays. One to move up and one to move down.

So we need to take the 12v positive to one side of the relay and 12 negative wires to the other side of two relays as shown. Simply follow icons/pictures on the ALFIE’s.

Add the negative wires.

Add the positive wires.

Step 5: Add the actuator. The ALFIE now has power for itself to operate and now also has power to operate external devices on the first two 12v relays. So its time to add the actuator. Simply wire on 12v actuator wire to the (A) on one relay and the other 12v actuator to the (A) on the other relay.

That’s it you are done! Your ALFIE is now ready to use. Plug in the 12v power plug to the ALFIE and use the buttons on the left to open or close the actuator. If you find the open button closes the actuator or vice versa simply reverse/change the actuator wires around that attach to the ALFIE.
